The depiction of Salome is a blend of seduction, madness, indifference, and death. She stands as the ultimate symbol of a goal achieved through seduction—her dance to obtain the head of John the Baptist being the quintessential example of the femme fatale.
Although Salome is not the one who physically carries out the beheading, she is the one who desires it. The weapon she holds, unstained with blood, symbolizes this.
The floating head of John the Baptist appearing before her is a tribute to The Apparition by Gustave Moreau.
All of this is framed within a chaotic background, suspended between blood and darkness.
